The Sinulog Festival is an annual cultural and religious festival held on the third Sunday of January in Cebu
City, and is the center of the Santo
Niño celebration in
the Philippines.
The origin
The Sinulog was already danced by the locals
in honor of their wooden statues in the period before the Cebuanos were
baptized. Later on, after the image of the famous Santo Niño was brought
to Cebu and the Catholic faith was established in the region, the dance
was made a part of the yearly fiesta in honor of the Santo Niño.

cebu is my 2nd
home, I love this place so much. Everytime it’s sinulog festival its already my
ritual to celebrate sinulog here in cebu. Its my way of thanking sto.nino for
all the blessing I received. Sinulog festival is one of the big festival in the
Philippines millions of visitors are celebrating/ joing the sinulog
festival.
After new
year, sinulog is the big day for me, it’s a whole month of January to
celebrate, here In cebu a lot of big events are happening. Attend the novena
mass / procession / dagkot kandila / pasalamat kay senyor santo nino. And when
it comes to restaurant / hotel Almost all of them are having sinulog treat
fiber to the guest.
Note: The
big day is in every 3rd Sunday of January, street dancing ( ang
lahat na street na madadaanan ng paride ay magsasara ( no jeep/vehicle sa
street ) as early as 4am close na ang street to all vehicle. Para makakuha ng
magandang place ( sa picture-picture ) you have to get-up early para
maka.pwesto sa visitor deck sa street. Street paride will start at 8am. And if
you wanted to watch street dancing competition at abellana sport complex book
it early para hindi ka maubusan ng ticket. Ticket range at php500 to php2500.
----at night
of Sunday ( sinulog day ) street party all over the street ( jones area/ mango
area / osmena area / ramos area, etc……) I suggest para hindi masyadong magulo (
sobrang dami kasi ng tao sa street ) dun nalng mag.party-party sa hotel or
restaurant para less crowded…..
-----Friday
before Sunday ( sinulog day ) sa abellana sport complex you can watch for free, some of the contingent will perform their sinulog dance. Around 4pm until 9pm I
guest.
------or if
you missed all the street dancing performance, ( Sunday, sinulog date ) don’t
you worry by Monday ana all the winners of street competition will perform
again for free at abellana sport complex ( perfect to watch ana kasi less
crowded na kasi may mga hang over ang tao sa party nila kagabi…heeheh )
Tips: if you
came here for sinulog, booked your hotel stay early para hindi ka ma.fullybooked sa
mga hotel.

to bring at sinulog day: water / cap / shades / comfortable shirt / comfortable
shoes ( para sa mahaba-habang lakaran…walang sasakyan eh…..) / camera / extra
battery for your camera. ( note: mag-ingat sa snatcher ( don’t wear to much
valuable things )
---things to
do ( sinulog day ) party-party / magpa.henna tattoo / Sa foods naman…..nothing
to worry paraming kainan everywhere sa street………..( note: sa C.R naman pag-iihi
ka… problema yang….kasi almost all of the establishment maraming tao ( full in
line sa C.R sobra )
