TRAVEL GUIDE: LARGEST CHURCH BELL IN ASIA ( PANAY CHURCH ), CAPIZ

The Santa Monica Parish Church (Spanish: Iglesia Parroquial de Santa Mónica), commonly known as Panay Church, is the oldest church on the island of Panay located in Panay Municipality, Capiz, Philippines. It is also the home of the largest church bell in the country and in Asia, and the third biggest in the world.

The original structure of the church was built during the term of Fr. Manuel Lopez between 1692 and 1698, but it was reported that a typhoon had ruined it. In 1774, Fr. Miguel Murguía rebuilt the church, but it was also later damaged by a typhoon on 15 January 1875. Fr. José Beloso restored the church in 1884.

The original name of the settlement was Bamban and it was changed by the early Spaniards to Panay, a word which means “mouth of the river". This is also the location of a fortress built by Juan de la Isla in late 1570.

HOW TO GET HERE?

----Travel time to Roxas City is 45 minutes by plane and around 16 hours by ship from Manila. From Iloilo City, it is approximately 2 hours by bus or private car. It will take approximately 4 hours travel going to Boracay Island by land. There are two (2) airlines operating in Roxas City (RXS): Philippine Airlines (PAL)  and Cebu Pacific have a daily schedule flight from Roxas-Manila and Manila-Roxas. There is one passenger ship operating in Culasi Port, Roxas city, Capiz: Moreta Shipping Lines’ M/V Love 1 which embarks for Capiz twice a week. There are also ferryboats that travel from Romblon and Masbate and also Roll-on Roll-off (ro-ro) Busses that treks through Capiz.

Extending as a peninsula on the southwestern tip of Cebu, Moalboal is bordered to the west by the Tañon Strait. From the western shoreline, Negros Island can be seen. Moalboal is located 89 kilometres (55 mi) from Cebu City, about 2½ hours by bus.

Moalboal is between the towns of Alcantara and Badian. From the tulay, an unfinished bridge located in Moalboal's town proper, Badian Island can be clearly seen, as well as the popular tourist attraction, Pescador Island.

---from moalboal elementary school ride a habal-habal going to the beach you wanted ( BASDAKO OR BASGAMAY ) fare Php25 / pax

HOW TO GET TO CEBU?

By Air:

The fastest way to reach Cebu is by plane. Cebu is an international destination with flights from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. Arrival is at at the Mactan International Airport almost daily. From Manila, Cebu is just an hour away by plane. It is an ideal jump-off point for other tourist attractions in Visayas and Mindanao.

By Sea:

Cebu City's vast, multi-piered port throngs harbor boats travelling around the Philippines. There are daily ferries to and from Cebu, Manila, Bohol, Negros, Leyte, Butuan, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Ozamis and Iligan among others. Ferry schedules change often so reconfirm departure times you get from guidebooks. There are ferries from other places as well, check locally for details.

Getting Around

Getting around Cebu can be quite tricky, but as long as you remember a few bits of information you can move around easily and safely.

The major mode of transport in Cebu City and other places in Cebu is the tricycle, a small cab powered by a motorcycle that can accommodate up to 3 passengers. Tricycles are usually limited only to the city or town where they are licensed to operate, but in some cases they can convey you to neighboring towns. The normal rate for tricycles in Cebu City is 7 pesos per kilometer.

Aside from tricycles, there are also jeepneys and multicabs plying their routes within the city and outside. Jeepneys are colorful jeeps with two long benches opposite each other. Sometimes, wooden benches are placed in the middle to accommodate more passengers, but this makes it difficult for passengers to disembark. Multicabs are plain-looking vehicles that resemble a small van, but it has open windows just like the jeepneys.

Another mode of transport in Cebu is the taxi cab. These are usually cars for hire with a driver, used by a single passenger or small group of passengers, often for a non-shared ride. Taxi cabs vary from models and uses. Most taxicabs have yellow colored license plates, taxi signs, LTFRB Registration number, and taximeter, which is mandatory in every cab.

Buses are also available but these tend to ply exclusively along the north-south route. There are two major bus terminals as the name implies for direction of travel - North Bus terminal at M. Logarta Avenue, Mandaue City and South Bus terminal at N. Bacalso Avenue, Pahina Central, Cebu City.
